Pleterje Charterhouse

The Carthusians are a special monastic order, known primarily for their mysteriousness. Monks meditate for the good of the world, do not speak to each other, but collect and research herbs. Herbs can help us to enlightenment and the benefit of mankind. But they carefully hide the conclusions, findings and magic of herbs in libraries and share them only among themselves... Secrets of herbs, but for the benefit of all. In 1403, Count Herman II of Celje founded the charterhouse in Pleterje.

1906

Legacy of Friar Bernard

Our beginnings go back to the monastery pharmacy of the Pleterje Charterhouse, which was led in 1906 by Friar Bernard, an expert in medicinal plants and a healer, about whom interesting legends still circulate in the Dolenjska region today. The founder of the company and Master of Pharmacy Matej Čuk was fascinated by the mysterious world of the Carthusian order and Bernard's mission and revived Bernard's recipes for herbal teas.

1986

Multiple Pioneers

Pleterje medicinal teas and bitters were first created in a small workshop in Pleterje Charterhouse. The company grew quickly and we began investing in research and development and verifying the effectiveness of ingredients. We can say that we were pioneers in many areas in Slovenia: we developed the first teas for children, the first organic teas, the first teas for babies and nursing mothers, the first instant teas, the first hemp teas, the first gastro teas and the first teas in large filter bags.

2006

Dietary Supplement Production

In addition to teas, we developed dietary supplements. We were the second in Slovenia to develop our own supplement production, the first in Slovenia to develop CBD supplements and the first in Europe to develop a process for its granulation (microencapsulation) on zeolite. The obtained certificates (Organic, ISO9001, IFS, GMP FOOD) prove the professionalism of our work. Today we manufacture dietary supplements for well-known brands such as Lekarne Ljubljana, Sensilab, BioPak, Hermes and others.

2019

Pharmaceutical-Grade Production

We modernized our production to the highest standards, so that our facilities are now suitable for the production of medicines, as they enable the best stability of the ingredients used. With a desire to create more complex supplements focused on a holistic approach to specific problems with synergistic ingredients, we developed the Life Enhancer line. Today, Herba Medica is a fast-growing company, also present in many foreign markets in Europe, America and Asia.
